Tempered & Laminated Glass

Building codes require safety-rated glass in specific locations: doors, sidelites, shower enclosures, glass railings, low windows near floor level, and any glazing within 24 inches of a door swing. Tempered and laminated glass meet these requirements and provide protection against injury if the glass is ever broken.

Tempered glass is heat-treated to be four to five times stronger than standard annealed glass. When it breaks, it shatters into small, blunt-edged fragments rather than dangerous shards. It is the standard choice for shower doors, glass tabletops, railing panels, and any application where impact resistance matters. Laminated glass consists of two glass sheets bonded together with a plastic interlayer, typically PVB or SGP. If laminated glass breaks, the interlayer holds the fragments in place rather than allowing them to fall. This makes it the preferred choice for overhead glazing, skylights, railing infill panels, and applications where fallout protection is required. Laminated glass also provides superior sound reduction compared to single-pane tempered glass.
