Dark hallways, interior bathrooms, and north-facing kitchens all share the same problem: not enough natural light. Skylights solve this directly by bringing daylight in from above, reducing reliance on artificial lighting during the day and making spaces feel larger and more open.

Colfax Glass installs VELUX skylights in both fixed and venting models. Fixed skylights are the right choice for light-only applications where ventilation is not needed. Venting skylights open to release hot air and bring in fresh circulation, which is particularly useful in upstairs bathrooms and kitchens in Auburn, Roseville, and Sacramento homes where summer attic heat builds up. VELUX solar-powered venting models qualify for federal tax credits and operate without wiring.

Proper flashing is the critical detail in any skylight installation. Leaks almost always trace back to poor flashing, not the skylight unit itself. We install VELUX-engineered flashing kits matched to your roof material (composition shingle, tile, or metal), and integrate them with the existing roofing system using step flashing and ice-and-water shield membrane. For Grass Valley, Nevada City, and Foresthill homes at higher elevation, we account for snow load and the freeze-thaw cycle that can compromise poorly installed flashings over time.

Coastal installations in Brookings and Crescent City face different challenges: wind-driven rain and salt air. We select impact-rated glazing and corrosion-resistant flashing for these locations. Every installation includes interior shaft framing, insulation, and a clean drywall or trim finish to complete the look from below.
